In a democratic society, trust in public institutions is vital. But what happens when police violence erodes this trust, leaving victims with no option but silence? The “Problem Polizei?!” project addresses this issue by focusing on those affected by promoting education and open dialogue.
Cases like the alleged police violence against politician Nam Duy Nguyen at the 2025 AfD party conference in Riesa or the unexplained death of Oury Jalloh in police custody in 2005 highlight the need for transparency and accountability. The project’s core question is: How can we foster critical dialogue on unlawful police violence in Germany and raise awareness of the need for transparency in law enforcement?
Using a human-centered design approach, a modular pop-up concept was developed to create a safe space where information meets exchange. The exhibition relies on visitor participation, allowing those affected to share their experiences on their own terms. Constantly evolving, it adapts to new locations, needs, and insights, taking a step toward breaking the silence and fostering transparency, empathy, and responsibility in society.
The pop-up is constructed out of different stations, which solve different things. Some stations try to inform about the topic, others help you to process the topic, actions and experiences. And the some try to offer exchange to help with information and processing of the topic.
This project is a concept, the visuals help to understand, but do not represent a final outcome. This outcome could also change from time to time, because of user participation.
